At Figoura, we take Greek dancing seriously, however, we also know that it is a fun and social activity that students come to enjoy. We understand that not everyone will want to pursue the certification programme set out by our dance school, therefore we offer an optional diploma scheme that students may follow to suit them. Below is an outline of the certificates that may be achieved at the Figoura School of Greek Dance. Students are required to opt-in for the Diploma certification and all certifications will be carried out annually.
CERTIFICATE of PARTICIPATION
This is a participation certificate awarded to a student that completed all 3 terms (Term 1, 2 & 3) and has achieved at least 80% attendance during the entire academic year (equating to at least 36-45 dance hours) and have demonstrated punctuality to classes. All students are automatically registered into this certification upon enrolment.
The participation certificate applies to all dance class levels
The Diploma certification is aimed at those students who want to take their Greek dancing more seriously and willing to spend some personal time outside of the classroom as well as within. It involves an examination in front of a panel of experienced dancers.
PREREQUISITES: Student will have attained the Participation certificate relevant to the certification level.
There are 3 Diploma level certifications. These are:
A participating student has accurately demonstrated by dancing 6 multi region dances from a pool of examinable dances that are selected from each Term of an academic year. The student will be expected to dance two dances from each of the 3 Terms in-front of an examining panel. They are also expected to provide some details about the origin of the dance and any other supporting details. The student will have also demonstrated at least 36 Greek dance hours at Figoura. This is attainable at both Beginner/Intermediate classes and Intermediate/Advanced.
The participating student has accurately demonstrated by dancing 12 multi region dances from a pool of examinable dances that are selected from each Term of an academic year. The student will be expected to dance four dances from each of 3 Terms of an academic year in front of an examining panel. They are also expected to provide some details about the origin of the dance and any other supporting details.. The student has also demonstrated at least 72 Greek dance hours at Figoura. The student is also expected to teach at least 2 dances from a pool of dances chosen in advance. Attainable only at Intermediate/Advanced level.
The participating student has accurately demonstrated by dancing 15 multi region dances accurately from a pool of examinable dances that are selected from each Term of an academic year. The student will be expected to dance five dances from each of the 3 Terms of an academic year in front of an examining panel. They are also expected to provide some details about the origin of the dance and any other supporting details. The student has also demonstrated at least 108 Greek dance hours at Figoura. The student is also expected to teach at least 5 dances from a pool of dances chosen in advance. Attainable only at Intermediate/Advanced level.

What happens after achieving your Gold Diploma from Figoura?
The Figoura School of Dance is your pathway to the world renown INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATION. This is the top level certification awarded by the International Dance Council (CID). A Figoura student may be recommended for this certification upon full completion of the Figoura Diploma Certification and has shown continued dedication to the Greek Folk dance and valued contribution to the dance school.
There are 3 levels of certification, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 that attribute to your commitment to dance. You are awarded with an International certificate signed and acknowledged by the President of the CID.
The CID International certification is your passport to the world.
International Dance Council (CID)
International Dance Council CID or Conseil International de la Danse:
Is the official umbrella organization for all forms of dance in all countries of the world.
Is recognized by UNESCO, national and local governments, international organizations and institutions.
It brings together the most important international, national and local organizations, as well as select individuals active in dance.
It is a non-governmental organization founded in 1973 within the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, where it is based.
Its members are the most prominent federations, associations, schools, companies and individuals in over 170 countries.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR YOU?
Pursuing a Figoura Diploma certification means that :
1. You receive a Figoura recognised qualification signed by our Director and your supporting dance instructor recognising your progress and development and your achievements.
2. You are provided with a career path to teaching at the Figoura School of Greek Dance
3. You receive available Figoura memorabilia during your various achievement points. including t-shirts, badges, posters, and other material.
4. You represent and become an ambassador for the Figoura School of Greek dance.
5. You are entitled to receive substantial discounts on services (workshops, classes, festivals etc.)
6. You receive a special examination refresher class to aid in your study and preparation for the annual examination day.
7. Pathway to the International Certification, awarded by the International Dance Council (CID) recognising your dedication to Greek Folk dance at the Figoura School of Greek Dance.
