IMG_1248.PNG

Our newest class to make an appearance at our dance school is the one that groups the most popular of Greek dances.  This class is focused solely on Laika (popular) and music from the rembetiko period.  If you find yourself planning a night out at a Taverna or frequenting your local 'Rembetadiko' then this class will cover the dances you'll most likely need to know.

ZEIBEKIKO
HASAPIKO
SIRTAKI - THE DANCE OF ZORBA
APTALIKO
HASAPOSERVIKO or SERVIKO
KARSILAMAS
TSIFTETELI

The ancient Greeks believed this to be the dance of the Gods!  Today it is danced by everyone, men, women and children.

Hasapiko 'The butcher dance' , is the most widespread Greek dance throughout the world.

The Hasapiko became the foundation of the well known dance 'Sirtaki' which is why people often mistake the two.

Often confused with its close cousin - the Zeibekiko

The Hasaposerviko (or Serviko from its Slavic roots,) is one you might already know because its an easy one to learn the basics.

One of the main attributes of this dance is that you dance as couples.

Linked to oreintal dancing.  These days you might see it danced on chairs or tables.
