Members of the Figoura Performing group attended the recent Cyclades and Dodecanese seminar as taught by instructor Mr Tasos Plitsis from Lykeion Ellinidon Athens.
We covered a range of dances from the Islands of Paros, Naxos, Kalymnos, Kos and Karpathos and discussed dances from Leros as well. The seminar itself was well suited to beginner level students and was a nice introductory class to dances from the Cyclades and Dodecanese
The seminar was complimented by musicians Ioannis Pavlopoulos on violin and Iordanis Kouzinopoulos on Laouto, both of which said a few words about their instruments. Interestingly, Laouto is different in Crete compared to other islands, not only in build but also in the way it is played, from strumming chords to playing melodies.
We look forward to meeting Tasos Plitsis again in the future.
