We are pleased to announce that our 4th Figoura Masterclass shall be based as before on the popular Hasapiko dance.

Following the successful Masterclass in June earlier this year we are pleased to bring back the Hasapiko Masterclass yet again! A hugely popular dance that has many variations today.  Known as the 'butchers dance'  and has been referenced by various names such as Makelarikos Horos, Hasapiko Argo (slow), Grigoro Hasapiko ((Quick Hasapiko) or Hasaposerviko, as well as Hasapiko Politiko and tavtaliano.

The Hasapiko became the foundation of the well known dance 'Sirtaki' which stemmed from the movie Zorba the Greek, and hence also referred to as the 'Zorba dance' which is made up of the Slow and fast parts of the Hasapiko.

You will witness many versions of Hasapiko. It roots date back to the Byzantine period, when it was a battle imitation dance with swords from the guild of the Greek butchers in Macedonia and Constantinople. The first line held knives, sticks and whips, while the second had no weapons.

This workshop will focus on a version of the Hasapiko as taught by our lead dance Instructor, Jack Iacovou, which will be split into 4 parts and taught throughout the Masterclass.
