We are excited to announce that the 5th Figoura Masterclass shall be on Pontic dance.

Dances from Pontos are special and there aren't many people in the UK that teach them. Those that learn to correctly dance to Pontic music and dance become fixed on them and learn to love the small, quick, precise steps, arm swings, syncopated knee bends, and abrupt pauses.

‘Ευξεινος θαλασσα’ means ‘Welcoming Sea’ or ‘Hospitable Sea’ and was the name ancient Hellenic seafarers gave to the body of water we know as the Black Sea. Pontos eventually came to mean the North coast of Asia Minor between Sinope and Georgia.
This workshop will focus on some of the most popular Pontic dances as well as some lesser known dances from the region. They shall be taught by our lead dance Instructor, Jack Iacovou.

The masterclass will be suitable for beginners and improvers.
So if you are interested in learning Pontiac dances then you won't want to miss this.

Jack has a unique, easy to follow yet engaging way of teaching students which is what has made the Figoura School of Greek dance so successful, he has extensive knowledge of the dances from Pontos, and has been teaching Greek dances for over 25 years in London.
Jack will also teach you about the instruments used, the various local differences between the dances and also give you an overview of the male and female costumes.
If you are ready for an action packed 3.5 hours of energising music and dance taught by an experienced dance instructor and in a professional dance studio in the heart of London, then this is the masterclass for you.
Don't forget a bottle of water! You'll need it!
