Beginner/General Level Class

These classes are ideal for those who are completely new to Greek dance, as well as those who have some experience with a small number of popular dances such as Sirtaki, Hasaposerviko, and Kalamatianos.

At this level, we focus on a blend of well-known traditional dances alongside what we call our CORE dances. These CORE dances form an essential foundation for any Greek dancer. While many are widely recognised, they are also carefully chosen to introduce students to the underlying regional styles and variations that exist across Greece and the accompanying music, rhythms and instruments as well as traditional attire.

This approach ensures that students not only learn dances suitable for social occasions such as weddings, parties, and cultural events, but also gain a deeper appreciation of the diversity and richness of Greek dance traditions.

Throughout each term:

​

• Students learn a structured selection of CORE dances (including Kalamatianos, Ikariotiko, Syrtos, Ballos, Tsamiko, Baidouska, Hasapiko, Hasaposerviko, Tik, Pentozali, and much more).​
   

• A regional focus is introduced, exploring styles from areas such as Crete, Epirus, Macedonia, Pontos, and the Greek Islands.​
   

• Teaching is designed to reinforce rhythm, technique, and stylistic awareness, helping students naturally progress to the next level.​
   

This combination provides a strong, well-rounded foundation and prepares dancers for further development beyond the basics.
