At Figoura, we believe that learning Greek dance extends far beyond the classroom. Each year, we provide unique opportunities for our students to immerse themselves in Greek culture, deepen their understanding of dance traditions, and work towards personal goals and achievements.

Our annual programme currently includes an international cultural trip to Greece and participation in the prestigious Danceworks Showcase in Central London.

Naousa Cultural Dance Experience

March (Annual Trip During Carnival Season)

Each year, Figoura offers students the opportunity to join an unforgettable cultural and dance experience in Naousa, Northern Greece, during the famous carnival celebrations and the internationally renowned "Genitsaroi and Boules" tradition.

This immersive ten-day experience combines dance education, cultural discovery, authentic music, local celebrations, and traditional Greek hospitality.

What to Expect

Participants will:

Attend daily dance workshops led by experienced Greek dance instructors.
Observe and experience regional dance traditions in their authentic setting.
Witness the famous Genitsaroi and Boules carnival customs up close.
Participate in traditional local festivities and celebrations.
Enjoy live music events featuring traditional orchestras and Balkan brass bands.
Meet dancers, musicians, and cultural practitioners from the local community.

Beyond the dance classes themselves, the trip offers students the opportunity to experience Greek culture as it is lived and celebrated by local communities, creating memories and friendships that last long after the trip has ended.

The cultural trip is open to students who wish to expand their knowledge of Greek dance and gain first-hand exposure to the traditions and customs that have shaped it.

Danceworks Annual Showcase

Central London

The Danceworks Showcase is one of the highlights of the Figoura calendar and provides students with the opportunity to work towards a shared performance goal each year.

Students who choose to participate rehearse selected choreographies throughout the year before performing on stage at the renowned Danceworks Studios Showcase held in London. The showcase provides dancers with valuable performance experience in a supportive and professional environment.

Through our affiliation with the International Dance Council (CID), participation in showcase performances may also provide eligible students with the opportunity to work towards internationally recognised dance certifications.

Students can progressively work towards:

CID Level 1 Certification
CID Level 2 Certification
CID Level 3 Certification

These certifications are awarded by the International Dance Council (CID) and recognise a student's commitment, training, development, and performance experience within the field of dance.

World Festival of Dance

Dora Stratou Theatre, Athens & International Dance Certification

The World Festival of Dance provides another exciting opportunity for Figoura students to perform and showcase their progress alongside dancers from a wide range of cultural and dance backgrounds.

Held annually, the festival celebrates diversity through dance and offers participants the chance to experience the energy and excitement of performing before a live audience.

For students wishing to take their dancing further, the World Dance Festival can also contribute towards the practical performance experience required for International Dance Council (CID) certification. Together with participation in events such as the Danceworks Showcase, the festival provides valuable opportunities for dancers to develop confidence, refine their performance skills, and work towards internationally recognised dance qualifications.
